I don't know why your application is not working correctly.

This comment engaged my curiosity:
Everything appears to be unchanged in Interface Builder and I've
tried to comment out all the most recent changes that I made (as best
I can remember) but no change.

I find that even for one person projects, some form of version control is an essential tool. XCode integrates well with Subversion, and Subversion like CVS is free.
