There is something called GUI scripting which you may be able to use to accomplish this. It is scripting, but even for nonscriptable applications via features made available with Universal Access. You have to enable it first by checking the "Enable access for assistive devices" in the Universal Access system preferences. Google it for more information. I'm only mildly acquainted with it.
