This isn't an Xcode install problem I don't think. All I'm doing is copying projects (source code) from one machine to another.
Are you saying Xcode got installed wrong? Xcode works on all of the machines!

We (Unix people as well as non-) install XCode Tools correctly, using the installer from the disk image we downloaded from the proper source. Seriously - that seems a lot simpler than trying to get it to work this way.
