How bizarre,
I was just about to post this exact same question!
Anyway,

So what's the 'correct' solution? I'd like to have a multiline, text area
but at the same time, it should not be user editable.
Do I use [textView string], to get the existing contents, manipulate them
manually and then [textView setString] to send them back, or is there a more
elegant method?
