Newbie cuestion on document based app and menus

Hi. I'm a cocoa newbie. I'm using a document based application, and it took me a while to realize that in order to respond to a menu item I had to create a new action on the FirstResponder of the MainMenu nib, and then create the corresponding event on MyDocument. After doing that I realized two things: it is really simple to do, and I'm obviously missing some basic knowledge on menu handling in Cocoa.

My question is: where in Apple's documentation (or anywhere else for that matter) is this documented? Are there tutorials on the topic? I'd really like to dig deeper into it.

Thank you all

César
