When you ask questions on mailing lists you should certainly be prepared and able to describe and defend your design goals. The #1 problem with questions on mailing lists are that people ask for answers to the wrong questions:

I don't think that Kevin's question is misplaced. You claim that storing strings and not attributed strings would be 20 times more space efficient for non-style text - can that really be true in the general case, especially if the string is a bit longer? As an alternative, perhaps you should look into archiving the text view contents with something other than RTF?
