ANN: CSMail client-based mail delivery framework released

Hi all,

I've been frustrated for some time that there's no way to send e- mails with attachments without tying applications to a specific mail client; sending e-mails is quite a good way to dispatch bug reports, because it doesn't rely on having an active Internet connection, and e-mail gets queued whilst the connection is inactive.

Anyway, I decided to bite the bullet and start something that everyone can use that can be easily extended by way of plug-ins to support other mail clients (in fact, currently the majority of the code is in the plugins, with very little in the actual framework itself).

You can download the source code at

  http://www.coriolis-systems.com/opensource/

The license is BSD-style, so it can be used in commercial or shareware projects as well as freeware/Open Source/Free Software.

The functionality provided at the moment is very basic---about as much as NSMailDelivery, but with the difference that other clients are supported. I hope in future to be able to add both more clients and broader functionality. Also, I'd very much like to see some support for Thunderbird; I suspect it's possible to interface with it via Thunderbird's own plug-in interfaces, but I don't know nearly enough about it, so if there are any Thunderbird experts listening I'd be interested in hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Alastair
