I think I get it and will step over using NSWorkspace. I saw the Notifications about finishing launching.

What type of application are you launching via NSTask? It sounds like one that is bundle based and shows UI. If that is the case you really should use the services of NSWorkspace to launch such applications and get notification about when the launch and/or exit.
