Ack, that should be

if (pathsAreEvilAndShouldNeverBeUsedForAnthing and CFStringGetTypeID()==CFGetTypeID((CFTypeRef) pathsAreEvilAndShouldNeverBeUsedForAnthing))

Copy and paste bugs suck ;-). Wouldn't have crashed, just never would have been true.
