Finder hacking:
This is a bit of voodoo, but it's been done.

The example code in mach_star[1] does a bit (a very little bit) of twisting
the finder.
The subversion integrates subversion[2] with the finder (I can't get this to
compile, but there is a LOT
of finder integration code there).

WARNING: FLOSS Software below::
1. http://rentzsch.com/mach_star/
2. http://scplugin.tigris.org/

Realize, if you do any of this sort of stuff in production code, it will
generally deal with injecting code into finder rather than latching on to a
defined / documented plugin interface. Be careful; test wisely. Finder
hacking is dangerous because everybody uses it all day long. Read the
associated licenses, etc.

Cheers,
Jonathan Saggau
