The reason why I mentioned opening the resource file using
Resource Manager APIs is that there is nothing in the File Manager
APIs to prevent you from creating a resource fork for a file and
filling it with whatever data you want.
Well, except Apple's official recommendations and the fact that if
you store just the right kind of data you can horribly crash the
Finder when it tries to e.g. look for a 'usro' resource in that
file... Resource forks containing anything else but a resource file
are technically possible, but invalid.
Oh, I know, just mentioning issues in case anyone was thinking that a
resource fork can only physically contain a resource file and/or that
resource files are only in resource forks.
