Thanks buddy, it worked!!
two questions.

1) when i do nmblookup i get output like
querying beomedia on 192.168.2.255
192.168.2.105 beomedia<00>

is there anyway to get only 192.168.2.105??

I'd write a Perl or shell script to run the command and filter the output.

2) Is there any cocoa api which does this? I mean what if I do not
want to use NSTask?

I don't know of any, although that doesn't necessarily mean there is none.
