I imagine that the panel could be drawn off-screen and the view copied in, but I suspect that the Color Picker isn't really Cocoa-backed-

The NSColorPanel, and all pickers, are written in Cocoa. The Carbon API to display the color picker is a wrapper around the cocoa calls.
