Hi Uli;
I changed it to orderOut, and still no luck. This is such a strange
problem. Once I order out the window, when I bring it back into view,
I can no longer modify it's alpha values. Anything I try to set them
to just has no effect.
Do you see any other differences in our fade code?

You *should* be using orderOut: instead of close if you intend to
re-show it, though. That's what I'm doing in my window fading code
and at a casual glance that looks like the main difference between
our two bits of code.
