Thanks Ryan and Erics, it has solved my problem but I've now another issue.
I was planing not to generate the mouse down event on menu of my
application. For this I have assumed restricted area of width equal to half
of screen width and height equal to menu bar height. Earlier I'd assumed
that flash application would stop execution if I generate mouse down event
on menu but it's not so. Even if I generate the mouse down on empty space on
menu bar it stops responding. So now I've to assume the restricted area till
the status items. I can easily click on the status items so I do not want to
put whole menu bar under restricted area. Can anyone suggest how I can get
the area of menu bar which does not includes that of status items? I'd
appreciate if someone can also suggest some other approach.

With regards,
Gurmit
