Can GCC even compile K&R C?

The C compiler portion of GCC itself is K&R C, since GCC has no way of knowing what compiler will be used to build itself. So, since GCC builds itself, yes, GCC compiles K&R C. You might have to add an option to GCC to do it; I suggest reading the GCC man page.
