I am trying to create a transparent window to display messages, much
like the volume control. I have seen this used in many other

I am wondering if there are any samples that show how to make such
windows or a library that one can use?

Well, there's Apple's sample code, found by searching for "transparent window" at developer.apple.com.

That's the Cocoa one. There's also a Carbon sample.
