Is your expectation that this will affect both issues? I can see how it would affect the clipping issue but not sure how it would relate to highlight drawing.

Unfortunately no, it didn't help. Any other suggestions?

I do need to set the background to nil, I just need to find a way got the rows to behave properly (or at least redraw correctly) when the row selection changes.
