controlling focus of embedded text fields

I have a NSTextField that sits inside an NSView that sits inside a
NSTableView. For the most part this works nicely, but whenever the
user begins editing the text field (i.e. clicks on it), the field
"steals" the focus from the table view.
What the best way of modifying things so that when the text field is
clicked on it starts editing, but the focus ring etc. are still drawn
on the NSTableView?
