A trivial application that puts the validation in the managed object
class does not...
In the application you provide, however, it's clear from simple
logging that the validation method implementation is irrelevant --
the method is not being invoked in some situations when the backspace
key is pressed. It's not immediately clear why this should be the
case; I would suggest filing a bug report.
