So now that we are (hopefully) getting near the end of this thread, I
would suggest that the problem of correct plist / description
documentation may also confuse developers within Apple:
For instance
1. The old style ASCII plist that is generated by nibtool is invalid.
Still to be fixed.
2. The plist in the PasteBoard for iPhoto 4 and iPhoto 5 both had
errors. I believe that iPhoto 6 PasteBoard info is correct.

Thanks for this link, and for submitting the bug reports so I don't
have to. :)
In short, the documentation needs to emphasize that description
methods are intended only for generating human-readable debugging
output, NOTHING ELSE.
Agreed.
(2) Bug in the description method
Even though it's not going to generate property lists that parse
to the original object graph unless that graph contains only
NSString, NSData, NSArray, and NSDictionary objects, it should
generate valid property lists.
I guess it couldn't hurt, but I'm not sure I agree -description
should have any obligation to return valid property lists in all
cases. I think the real fix is in the documentation.
