2. Cocoa is easy to experiment with. Do not be afraid to create a new project to try out a simple one-liner.

I have a scratch project that I keep around for just this purpose. It has a trivial app delegate and a couple of windows containing various NSControls. When I want to try something simple, such as a code snippet posted on this list, I usually stick it either in the app delegate's -awakeFromNib or in the action method for one of my buttons.
