Well - it's a good suggestion but not everybody wants to rely on
third-party solutions, especially if it's just a single-purpose app.
David, what you need to read up on is creating a borderless window
(search the archives, there're countless threads about how to do
that, complete with links to examples). Just as with any other
window, you can show it or hide it (order it in or out) and interact
with controls, etc.
If you want the message to be able to pop up when your main app
isn't running, it gets just a bit more complicated. You'd need a
second "monitor" app to respond to the condition of choice and launch
the main app when the window, button, control is clicked, etc. This
can be run without a dock icon (plenty of threads on that subject
too) so it looks nice and clean.
Just search around. If you have more specific questions about what
you've learned, post them.

Anyway, I need to do something like msn or yahoo messenger, to pop
up a
window on the righthand lower corner of the screen whenever there
is, let
say, new item available to download.
The window behavior will be like the messenger's one, pop up and
disappear
after 5 secs unless the mouse is over the window.
And the user supposedly able to interact with the window. E.g.,
click on a
button that invoke action in my main application.
What is the best approach to implement this? Thanks a lot.
Regards
David
