Is there an Apple Engineer here?

I'm no Apple Engineer, but I wouldn't think you need one. I know that Core Data performance has been discussed at length on this list. Have you tried going to http://search.lists.apple.com/ and searching cocoa- dev for "core data performance" (no quotes)? 438 messages were returned for me. Some may answer your questions.
