NSTokenField - edit existing tokens?

After NSTokenField has created a token out of a string, is it possible to turn the token back into a string for editing (so the user doesn't have to delete, then retype the entire thing)? How?

I'm looking for the functional equivalent of what Apple Mail does with its "Edit Address" in its UI.
