I've been following your posts with great interest even though I haven't been able to offer any help. At one point I was hoping to combine the examples out there myself and release it as the ultimate NSTreeController + Core Data + Ordering + Multiple selection Copy/ Paste/DragAndDrop example. I can see from your posts however, that I don't have the skills to tackle the quirks involved. Perhaps you'd be willing to share your NSTreeController subclass at some point, as I'm sure many people would be thankful. :)
It's a shame that such a common element (the ubiquitous iApp Source pane) is currently so difficult to get working correctly, and likely won't get easier until 10.5.
