well one way i've noticed is that you can tell from the dmesg command
whether they are using sse/sse2 extensions. (i'm assuming that if the
computer is powerpc that it probably doesn't have this :-))
so you could always read the output from dmesg, but i'm sure there's
an even easier method than that, hopefully and object that you can
access directly. have you tried looking at how cocoa handles hardware?
