Whoops!  For want of a dot, the links were lost...

The correct commands, which could be figured out if you read the
paragraph preceding, are --

   ln -s ~/Library/ODBC/odbc.ini ~/.odbc.ini
   ln -s ~/Library/ODBC/odbcinst.ini ~/.odbcinst.ini
