noobs and document package types

Hi list, I think I'm in the right page, these developer forums can be confusing.

I'm writing an application in a fairly highlevel language (cycling74s max/msp), named AntiLoop. AntiLoop's "documents" are going to have to be collections of many text documents. I was hoping to implement the "document package" but I don't know where to start researching.
So I was hoping someone out there on the internet could point me to a guide to defining my own document package type, and a way to create a document package by simple "create folder, save document commands" Max gives the user access to the shell, as well as some very primitive "save document to this directory" commands

obviously I cant do this in xcode.... any suggestions?
