Well, the difference being that binary compatibility for IA32
guarantees that "int" will be that size. However, considering we
have 64 bit CPUs, it's obvious that those who didn't make that
assumption are better off now, because their code will recompile
for those with less changes.
As I wrote that I was thinking back even further, to the early/middle
90s when the two leading vendors of C compilers on the Mac had
different default sizes for int at the same time.
