Ah, I didn't realize that method was in the framework.
I read your first message again and you said the object is
autoreleased by its factory method. But, then you retain it. Unless
that first retain message is balanced with a release message it
doesn't matter that it was ever sent an autorelease message.
If this isn't the problem please post the code where the object is
created and retained.
