Yes, I do believe this discussion has come up often on carbon-dev.
Usually, the common first question is "Where are you getting the name
that contains the : or /?". Then the entire volume format thing is
mentioned, then people say never, ever use paths as paths are evil
and very, very fragile. Then they get into a huge discussion about
how all the path based APIs fail miserably when a path is over 1024
bytes in length while the non-path based APIs have no issue with any
length of path.
