Spotlight or some other way!

So...

First let me say that the members of this list are pretty cool. I have to say that I don't think I would have enjoyed the success I have had so far without those here who take the time to help. I hope to one day to be of value to someone else who needs help.

Let me ask a question ...

I wish to find a group of files that the user could have placed anywhere on their computer. These files all have the same extension--the question is--what is the best way (and has anyone cobbled code together) to hunt down files? What is the "right" way to do this?
