More specifically, do a doc search for
NSWorkspaceDidTerminateApplicationNotification.

Actually, the helper app is a LSUIElement App so it seems the above notification doesn't apply, however, Mach Port Dead-Name Notifications look like they'll do what I want. I'll give that a try. And thanks, I hadn't come across this document before.
