Is it your USB device? If so, you might be able to jiggle IOKit or DiskArb to leave you alone. ie, something like DADiskClaim(), but I have no idea what that does. DiskArb isn't too well documented.

I've looked at the NSWorkspace methods but the notifications for the mount actions are not sent when the device is just pulled. Also none of the SetSystemUIMode's disable this.
