my understanding is that cache coherency is taken care of at the
hardware level and that only very low-level stuff like kernel drivers
and such would need to worry about it.
this particular app would fall under the "multimedia" umbrella... video
playback and such, but nothing kernel-deep.
knowing this, is it possible that pointer assignment will be
effectively atomic even across multiple cores?
