A 64-bit app can address much more memory, but deploying such a beast has problems of its own. It requires a 64-bit processor, which limits it to G5s and Mac Pros.

AFAIK all currently shipping machines support 64-bit operation. The original Core Duo and Core Solo processors don't support 64-bit, which rules out older Intel Mac Minis, Intel iMacs and laptops, but the Core 2 Duo CPUs in the more modern machines are 64-bit capable.

Of course, that still makes the situation far from ideal; there are lots of people still using G4s, never mind the earlier pre-Core 2 Duo Intel machines.

Kind regards,

Alastair.
