If all you want is directory listing why not just use the Terminal application - change to the directory in question - do ls -l or some variant thereof, redirecting the output to a txt file and print that via TextEdit. If that requires to much work on the user's part, write a script to do it - apple script or shell. Or you could write a small application that does it.
