The convention is that memory management issues should only be addressed where they differ from those given by the rules clearly laid out at <http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Cocoa/Conceptual/MemoryMgmt/Tasks/MemoryManagementRules.html >. These rules are fundamental to effective Cocoa programming, and should not need to be repeated throughout the documentation. Adding reminders throughout would require a huge effort and simply add unnecessary bulk to the reference.
