customize the nstextfield format

Hi everyone. What I want to do is to create a customized format: In the system preference, network, you can customize your IP address, the input textfield is as the following format: XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX. How generate such format to restrict the input content? After completed, then how to parse the input into four parts?
