It seems to be the less-than symbols which are causing the trouble.
I've had a look at the XML specification and as far as I can tell I
should be able to encode the less-than characters like so:

addr = *PC + ( *(PC + 1) << 8);
</code>
You are almost there
<code>
addr = *PC + ( *(PC + 1) << 8);
</code>
you were missing the ";" and the end of the entities.
