NSOutlineView or NSTreeController flat list

I can't seem to find any easy way to do this other than collecting up all the table row items from the table.
This being getting a flat array of all items being shown in the Outline view.
I am trying to implement exactly what the Finder shows when in coverflow mode.
There is an outline at the bottom, and the cover flow at the top. The cover flow shows all the visible items in the outline.
I would like to just be able to bind to the controller's flat list of objects, but of course there is no binding.

Is there some easy way to do this that I am missing? If so please point me towards it.
