There's lots of additional settings which change depending on the SDK, though. For example GCC compiler version etc. Similarly, Objective C 2.0 requires runtime support, i.e. in the compiler and libraries. So if he actually intended his project to still run before 10.5, the answer is "don't use ObjC 2.0 features".
