alternating row background color and custom row height bug?

Hello,

I'm using an NSOutlineView with alternating row background color and varying row heights (either the normal height or a smaller height depending on the item). The thing is that when I have no items in the outline view the top color is blue but when i do have items the top color is white (it doesn't matter what height the rows are, only if there are items or not). Any ideas why this would happen or suggestions?
