Have you recently upgraded XCode? If so, did you run /Developer/
Tools/uninstall-devtools.pl before you did the upgrade? IIRC, you
can directly upgrade XCode without running that tool, but it isn't
foolproof, so it is better to uninstall, and then install a new
full version each time they come out with one.
For what it's worth, I've never done this, and I don't know of anyone
who does.
Not to say it isn't helpful -- I really don't know. But I don't think
there's an expectation on Apple's part that developers do this each
time.
It shouldn't be necessary, but from what I can see on the XCode list,
its a good idea. IIRC, its only necessary if your are downgrading,
or if your install is broken (say, due to a power outage while
installing). I do it when I'm upgrading as a way of forestalling any
little nasties, because I tend to customize chunks of /Developer to
my liking. By backing up, uninstalling, and then installing clean, I
can merge in those changes that make sense, and clean out all the
ones that don't.
The reason I mentioned it, is if the OP did that step, then that is
one less suggestion that we need to make...
Thanks,
Cem Karan
