I don't know if in PHP there's any difference between not passing a
query and passing an empty query (there may be differences)
I actually make this distinction on a site - http://www.johannaost.com/
is the start page whereas http://www.johannaost.com/? is a random image.
Probably not common, but (something that looks like) an empty query
string can indeed be significant.
