Dear both of you,

You gave me the (short) answer, along with the rich answer :

Thanks a lot.

Read the section titled, "Main and Key Windows" very closely.

The reason this doesn't work when you uncheck "visible at launch
time" is because, since there is no window on-screen, there is no
"main window" (nor "key window" for that matter).

The short answer is, create an outlet in your controller and connect
it to the window. use the outlet to talk to the window directly,
rather than relying on it being the main window to message it.
