Creating dynamic views

Hi,

Take this for example: Go into iTunes and edit a Smart Playlist. There are multiple rules, you can add as many as you like using the plus button and the screen expands.

How would one go around creating a view like that? A custom view?

I find the documentation regarding custom views rather lacking. Am I looking in the wrong place, is there more? (a tutorial?)
