Google for GNUStep. :-)
As of a few years ago, the GUI stuff was not ready for prime time
on Win32, but the Foundation layers were there and were in a very
usable state.
That was my first guess too. GNUStep does not have the distributed
center. It has the per process center, but not a system wide
distributed one. My life would be so much easier if it did.
