Supposedly HKBlkAppKit is the best (according to Ankur, who seems to know a thing or two http://dev.lipidity.com/apple/shiira-2-released- offers-hud-framework), but I haven't really looked at it yet other than to see it has a yummy BSD license (die GPL die!) and seems to have everything you need for simple stuff.
